Across the river Great Ouse from Houghton & Wyton lie another pair of historical villages: Hemingford Abbots and Hemingford Grey. The Axe & Compass pub (left) is a favourite watering hole in Hemingford Abbots.

Both have many old houses, but Hemingford Grey can boast the oldest inhabited house in England: The Manor House. It dates from about 1150, and was restored by Lucy Boston who writes about it in her "Green Knowe" books for children.

The picture on the right is a view up the river with the Hemingford Grey church in the background. A closer view of the church can be seen on the left.
