Martin Rutty and Tim Gilbert, founders of couriers Speed Services in St Ives flew 22000km from Cambridge to Sydney in an unmodified Robinson R44 helicopter. This is a single piston-engined helicopter with a maximum fuel range of around 330 nautical miles (650km). They took about 150 hours flying, 60 fuel stops and 6 weeks to complete the epic journey. It is believed to be the first time such a flight has been made.
The trip was in support of the children's charity "SOS Children's Villages", which provides care for orphaned, abandoned and destitute children.
